The football players
Nandu was a happy baby elephant with a long trunk and big ears. One morning, he found a bright, round football in a grassy field in the jungle. "Look!" he trumpeted. "A new toy!"

The story of a baby elephant..
Nandu called all his jungle friends. They kicked the ball, chased it through the trees, and had a wonderful time. The sun was shining, and everyone was laughing and playing together.

Suddenly, pop! The football hit a sharp stick and cracked. It was flat and could no longer bounce. The game stopped. Nandu and his friends felt very sad because they wanted to keep playing.

Nandu went home and looked in the food storage. He saw a pile of big, round green watermelons. "These look just like my football!" he thought. He grabbed one with his trunk and ran back to the field.

Nandu gave the watermelon a giant kick. SPLAT! The fruit broke into a hundred red pieces. He ran back and got another one. CRASH! That one broke too. Soon, the field was covered with wasted food.

Nandu and friends did not stop playing. They continued breaking watermelons and enjoyed the whole afternoon. Slowly, the sun sat down.

In the evening, Nandu’s mother came home. She saw the empty food storage and the messy, red field. Nandu told her, "I just wanted to play football, but the watermelons keep breaking!"
His mother sat him down and said, "Nandu, food is for eating, not for playing. We must save our food, so we have something to eat when we are hungry later. And use the right tools for the right games."
Nandu felt sorry and promised never to waste food again.
